Home charging for electric cars from China

The Akyga® AK-EC-23 is a single-phase GBT charger designed for electric cars fitted with a Chinese GB/T connector. The device enables convenient and efficient charging of electric vehicles using AC current from a standard 230 V socket. It is a practical solution for owners of cars imported from China that are not directly compatible with the European CCS2 or Type 2 charging infrastructure.

The AK-EC-23 GB/T charger has a power output of 3.8 kW at 16 A, ensuring good performance when charging at home. This is the maximum power that can be obtained from a standard single-phase 230 V socket, which is why the device works well for overnight charging or when the vehicle is parked for a longer period.

At the other end of the charger is a CEE 7/7 plug, compatible with both sockets with an earth pin and those with earth in the side contacts. This is a practical solution that allows you to charge your vehicle from any 230 V mains socket – in the garage, on the driveway or in a car park.

The 5-metre cable ensures freedom of parking and ease of connection even when the car is parked further away from the power source. Thanks to the appropriate cable cross-section, the cable does not suffer excessive voltage drop, and its design guarantees reliability in everyday use.

Intuitive ControlBox

The central component of the device is the ControlBox with a clear LCD screen. The display shows the charger’s operating status and allows you to monitor the most important charging parameters. You can check the voltage, current, temperature, charging time, energy consumption and the connection status with the vehicle.

The user can independently adjust the charging current to suit the electrical installation by selecting one of four levels: 8 A, 10 A, 13 A or 16 A. This adjustment enhances safety and allows the power output to be tailored to the electrical installation’s capacity. In older buildings, lower ranges can be selected to reduce the load on the wiring, whilst in well-maintained installations, charging at the full 3.8 kW capacity is possible.

Comprehensive safety features

Safety features play a key role in everyday use. The GB/T charger features surge and overcurrent protection, as well as protection against overload, short circuits and overheating. If any irregularities are detected, the device will automatically stop charging, protecting both the vehicle and the charger itself.

Overcurrent protection. The charger will switch off if it detects an overload of the stabiliser.

Thermal protection protects against overheating of the power supply, which could result in damage.

Protection against overvoltage at the charger's output. Protects the device being charged from damage.

The built-in temperature sensor in the plug ensures safety and protects against the consequences of overheating the battery in the car. Thanks to a suitable controller, the device regulates the parameters so as to maintain the optimum temperature during the charging process.

IP54-rated rugged design

The GB/T charger meets the IP54 standard, meaning it is resistant to dust and water splashes. The device can be used in a garage, under a carport or on a driveway, whilst ensuring it is not exposed to submersion or prolonged heavy rain. A robust housing and fire-resistant materials enhance durability and operational safety.

How GB/T charging works

    • Connecting to a 230 V socket – Simply plug the CEE 7/7 plug into a standard mains socket. The charger is ready to use – no special installation or tools are required.

    • Connecting to the vehicle – Connect the GB/T connector to the car’s charging port. The charger automatically recognises the vehicle’s parameters and negotiates the charging current in accordance with the GB/T standard – communication takes place via the CAN protocol, which ensures safe and efficient charging.

    • Monitoring and completion – You can track the charging process on the LCD screen: voltage, current, temperature, time and energy consumed. Once the batteries are fully charged, the charger safely completes the process. If any irregularities are detected, the device will automatically stop charging.

    • The entire process is intuitive and requires no specialist knowledge – simply connect and monitor.

Who is the GB/T AK-EC-23 charger for?

The ideal choice for:

  • Owners of Chinese electric cars imported into Poland – GB/T connectors are standard equipment on all electric cars manufactured for the Chinese market, including models from BYD, NIO, Xpeng, Zeekr, Li Auto, Geely, Chery, Leapmotor, Wuling, Hongqi, Aion, Denza and Ora. If your vehicle has a GB/T port, the AK-EC-23 will ensure safe charging at home.
  • People looking for a home solution without costly installations – a single-phase 230 V supply from a socket is standard in most homes. You don’t need a three-phase installation or a dedicated circuit – all you need is a socket with a 16 A fuse and a cable with a cross-section of at least 2.5 mm².
  • Companies operating vehicle fleets from China – regulating the charging current prevents the electrical system at the depot from becoming overloaded, whilst the ability to monitor parameters on the LCD screen ensures full control over the process. A fast charger minimises downtime – batteries and chargers are key to efficient fleet management.
  • Distributors and importers of electric vehicles – the growing market for cars imported from China means increasing customer demand for dedicated battery chargers with a GB/T port. The AK-EC-23 is a product with full documentation, CE certification and manufacturer support within the EU.

Frequently asked questions

Is the charger safe to use? Yes. The AK-EC-23 is CE-certified and features built-in protection against overvoltage, overcurrent and overheating. The GB/T standard specifies charging safety requirements, and the device complies with European temperature limits (up to 77°C). The charger complies with the IP54 standard, making it dust and water resistant.

Can it be used outdoors? Yes. The IP54 standard provides protection against dust and water splashes. The charger can be used under a carport, in a garage with the door ajar, or on a driveway. However, direct exposure to heavy rain and submersion in water should be avoided.

Is it compatible with all Chinese electric cars? The charger is compatible with all vehicles equipped with a GB/T AC port. The GB/T connector is the standard in China for electric vehicles – this includes models from BYD, NIO, Xpeng and other brands. Vehicles which, in their export versions, have a modified port to CCS2 or Type 2 require compatibility verification.

How does GB/T differ from the European standard? The GB/T connector uses five conductive pins and a specific CAN protocol, whilst the Type 2 connector has seven conductive pins and uses a different signalling system. The main difference between GB/T and CCS is the use of two separate ports in the car. The GB/T standard was introduced by the Chinese Standardisation Administration and, in its latest version, supports charging up to 1.2 MW (in DC mode). The GB/T standard ensures safe charging up to 1.2 MW, although the AK-EC-23 operates in AC mode at 3.8 kW. GB/T also offers DC charging with a power of up to 250 kW and a voltage of up to 750 V in a standard DC configuration.
