Frequently asked questions
Is the charger safe to use? Yes. The AK-EC-23 is CE-certified and features built-in protection against overvoltage, overcurrent and overheating. The GB/T standard specifies charging safety requirements, and the device complies with European temperature limits (up to 77°C). The charger complies with the IP54 standard, making it dust and water resistant.
Can it be used outdoors? Yes. The IP54 standard provides protection against dust and water splashes. The charger can be used under a carport, in a garage with the door ajar, or on a driveway. However, direct exposure to heavy rain and submersion in water should be avoided.
Is it compatible with all Chinese electric cars? The charger is compatible with all vehicles equipped with a GB/T AC port. The GB/T connector is the standard in China for electric vehicles – this includes models from BYD, NIO, Xpeng and other brands. Vehicles which, in their export versions, have a modified port to CCS2 or Type 2 require compatibility verification.
How does GB/T differ from the European standard? The GB/T connector uses five conductive pins and a specific CAN protocol, whilst the Type 2 connector has seven conductive pins and uses a different signalling system. The main difference between GB/T and CCS is the use of two separate ports in the car. The GB/T standard was introduced by the Chinese Standardisation Administration and, in its latest version, supports charging up to 1.2 MW (in DC mode). The GB/T standard ensures safe charging up to 1.2 MW, although the AK-EC-23 operates in AC mode at 3.8 kW. GB/T also offers DC charging with a power of up to 250 kW and a voltage of up to 750 V in a standard DC configuration.
